SILVER GALA Virtual Cheers
05 NOV 2021, 6-7pm
Thank you to everyone who joined us online to acknowledge the cancelled Silver Gala event. We missed Moses, and we missed all of you wonderful people who were going to join us on this fabulous evening!
Supporters signed in from all over the world and some dressed up for the occasion and looked particularly fabulous (Lucy wow!). Looking forward to doing this in person once COVID has exhausted itself!
Sincere thanks to our sponsors who were so generously supporting the Gala dinner at Skyline Queenstown, even after we had to make the difficult decision to postpone and then cancel. Our sponsor page is currently being updated to reflect this wonderful support. Please support these sponsors as you can too. Moses MacKay has a new SoloMio album “Coming Home” available from Nov 12, so we will still enjoy his entertainment at Christmas. Amazingly, the online auction, run by Ronnie at Proctor Auctions, Dunedin, raised $16,000 and we are still counting.
We were delighted to award Dr Thomas Park our second Research Grant for his work on brain tumour cell migration (how wonderful would it be to turn that off in the brain!). We grateful for his succinct and understandable overview of his work. (Please see our research page for details). This was a moment to congratulate our Youth Group member Karen Suresh, and her supervisor Dr Tania Slatter (our first research grant awardee) for their success in gaining a 2022 University of Otago Dean’s Research Scholarship on brain tumours. New Zealand has talented people who are more than capable of leading the world in this research, if we can support them! The progress of well-funded research is amply illustrated by AIDS and COVID, and we are determined to make the same happen for brain tumours.
Anybody who is familiar with the Trust will know that we have just started. If you have any ideas or would like to contribute, please contact us! xx

SILVER GALA DINNER AUCTION
05 Nov 2021
ONLINE AUCTION 05 NOVEMBER CONTINUES!!
Instead of an in-person event, please join us online at 6:30pm on 05 November for an online address and auction results
We hope you and your whānau are keeping safe and healthy.
As you are aware, we postponed our Silver Gala in Queenstown from September to November, in the hope that the COVID-19 outbreak and risk to people had reduced to where we could host a wonderful event open to all our supporters. Under Alert Level 2 or higher, the Silver Gala would not be able to proceed in such a way that would enable our guests, donors and supporters, and entertainment to engage with the evening.
We have delayed making a final decision as long as possible, as everyone involved in the event was looking forward to it going ahead.
Unfortunately, given the Alert Level in the South Island, and the hard borders in the North Island, we will not be going ahead with the Silver Gala in Queenstown on the 5th of November. We are incredibly disappointed, but have no choice given the current situation. We have carefully considered whether we could further postpone the event, but given the uncertainty of what the next six to twelve months will look like, have made the difficult decision to cancel this year’s Silver Gala.
Full refunds will be issued immediately. We thank you again for your generous support and continued engagement with the New Zealand Brain Tumour Trust.
We stand by our commitment to recognising those living with brain tumours and their whānau, and supporting research around brain tumours. Therefore, while we cannot meet and celebrate in person, we will be going ahead with a virtual event from 6pm on November 5th. We will be recognising our supporters, and joining together to view the culmination of our ‘silent’ and ‘live’ auctions in our continued partnership with Proctor Auctions. Will we be able to recognise our generous donors and sponsors, and our supporters can continue to bid on the incredible items since the auction opened in September.
